Lynn Trainor - Hunters Hill Theatre
For fifty-seven years, the theatre has been Lynn Trainor’s abiding passion.
Lynn’s journey on the Community Theatre road began in 1957 when she joined the Dominican Players, an all-girl Revue group, to assist backstage and manage the money. In 1959 she joined the cast, doing some sketch writing, and still being Treasurer. In the next few years, the Dominicans branched out into plays and a musical, with Lynn being cast, making and sourcing costumes and still, managing the money. Moving to London in the Sixties, she joined the St. Brides Players, sometimes performing, and also making costumes and typing and copying the programmes. Returning to Sydney in late 1964, she was again working with the Doms.
Marriage and babies interfered a bit, but she kept her hand in by producing, writing, directing and costuming children’s plays and fund-raising shows with other mums as performers.
Lynn joined the Genesian Theatre Company in 1978 - acting, costuming, teching, stage-managing, working on the Committee, and finally directing and designing her productions. By 1994, she had been involved in a number of capacities in forty productions, served as Theatre Director for two terms – 1983 to 1985, and 1992 to 1993. She inaugurated a Subscription Season and managed the bookings herself. She was also honoured with Life Membership.
For the next several years, Lynn worked with Centre Players and also Phoenix Theatre Company – mostly as director, designer and costume person. In 1987, her membership of Hunters Hill Theatre began – initially from a distance. But after moving to the area in 1998 she became deeply involved. During her membership, Lynn has directed and designed sixteen productions, mostly costuming them also and choosing and overseeing the sound recordings. She has played a role in six productions, painted sets, been production co-ordinator, stage manager, lighting operator and props collector. She has even managed to upholster furniture. From 2002 to 2013, Lynn was an active Committee member, serving as Newsletter Editor, Secretary, Wardrobe manager, FOH Manager, supplies buyer, Subscription Manager for eight years and finally President from 2009-2010. She is a life Member of Hunters Hill Theatre Inc.
