By sheer coincidence, Bob and fellow Hall of Fame recipient Robert Broadley were students just a year apart at Canterbury Boys High School — a friendship that has stood the test of time. Their early connection through school evolved into a deep bond grounded in a shared passion for community theatre.

In 1968, after contributing to several theatre companies, Robert founded the Strathfield Light Opera Company — now known as the Strathfield Musical Society. The company became a powerhouse in Sydney’s musical theatre scene, producing as many as ten shows a year under Robert’s direction. His creative leadership and commitment turned the company into one of Sydney’s most respected community theatre groups.
