In the Spotlight: Roger McKenzie
Roger McKenzie’s journey in community theatre began with the Rockdale Musical Society, where he performed, designed costumes, promoted shows, and even directed. When the company’s founder Winston Eldridge suggested Roger take over, he did just that — forming a committee and leading RMS with great success.
In the late 1980s, after a visit to New Zealand and learning about their national federation of musical theatre societies, Roger saw the potential for a similar organisation in Australia. He was instrumental in forming the Association of Community Theatre (ACT), serving as its founding Secretary — and working tirelessly in that role until relocating to the Gold Coast.
