In the Spotlight: Daryl Kirkness
For Daryl Kirkness, community theatre is in the blood. A second-generation member of Gosford Musical Society, Daryl grew up in the wings — following in the footsteps of his father, a Life Member, and carving his own exceptional legacy within the company.
Daryl has graced the stage since childhood, and over the years has contributed in nearly every imaginable role: director, set designer, lighting consultant, costume designer, cast member, and more. He’s also served on the GMS Committee as both floor member and Vice President.
Currently, Daryl serves as Shed and Construction Co-ordinator, managing GMS’s unique, dedicated set-building facility — affectionately known as the “person shed”. Under his guidance, sets are built, friendships are forged, and the heart of the company keeps beating week after week.
When the pandemic struck in 2020, Daryl’s leadership truly shone. He arranged socially distanced gatherings in line with health orders, ensured isolated members remained connected, and even ran a virtual Set Design course to keep creativity alive during lockdowns.
