Kevin Booth, Alan Mundy, Janice Harris and Peter Fordham

Association of Community Theatre (NSW) inducted Kevin Booth (Gosford Musical Society)…

In the Spotlight: Kevin Booth, Alan Mundy, Janice Harris and Peter Fordham.

A foundation member of Gosford Musical Society in 1947, Kevin Booth has been a guiding force for more than seven decades. Whether on stage, behind the curtain, or leading from the boardroom, there is no corner of GMS that hasn’t been shaped by Kevin’s hand.

Alan Mundy has been directing, acting and leading in community theatre since 1958. A founding member of The Guild Theatre in Rockdale and the inaugural director of Miranda Musical Society, Alan has directed more than 74 musicals, ranging from intimate comedies to grand blockbusters like Les Misérables.

Since choreographing The Sentimental Bloke in 1976, Janice Harris has worked on 50 productions for the Orange Theatre Company. Whether guiding seasoned dancers or first-time performers, Janice is known for helping people believe in themselves—and move with confidence.

Peter Fordham is the backbone of regional theatre in southern NSW. For more than 20 years, he’s been building sets, stage managing, and helping bring theatre to small towns like Hillston, Rankin Springs, and Lake Cargelligo. He’s a road-tripping, set-hauling, always-smiling supporter of the arts in places that need it most.

Moments that Matter

Did You Know? 🪄

  • In the 1960s, when GMS was nearly forced to disband, Kevin saved the company by relocating it to a chicken pavilion at the Gosford Showground—without a stage, lighting, sound or seating. By 1982, he’d also secured the resources to build GMS’s rehearsal and costume centre, now home to over 30,000 costumes.
  • In his prime, Alan was offered a professional career with JC Williamson, but turned it down to continue working with his community. His loyalty to the amateur scene earned him a reputation as a master director and generous mentor.
  • Janice is known for her no-nonsense, high-energy rehearsals and some unforgettable one-liners. A fan favourite:
“Men should always dance like men… even if you’re wearing a G-string, bodystocking, wig and Cat’s make-up.”
  • Peter has helped stage productions in cathedrals, school halls, and tiny town centres, and is a driving force behind Shakespeare Under the Stars, The Schools Spectacular, and Exposed, a new interdisciplinary arts event uniting theatre, music and visual art.

A Lasting Legacy 🎖️

Kevin Booth built not just stages, but a lifelong foundation for community theatre on the Central Coast, ensuring Gosford Musical Society had a lasting home. Alan Mundy’s artistic leadership and dedication helped shape two of Sydney’s most respected companies, inspiring generations of performers. Janice Harris empowered dancers and non-dancers alike in Orange with humour, flair, and heart, leaving a legacy of movement and mentorship. Peter Fordham brought theatre to the far corners of NSW, proving that passion, grit, and a ute full of props can light up any stage, anywhere.
